Basauni is located in Lakhisarai District and lies near the district’s border with Munger District. It lies at an altitude of 127 ft and the Ganges River flows through the region.

Basauni is 32 km north-east of Lakhisarai and 15 km east of Surajgarha. Amrasani and Barahiya are places with tourist interest in the region.
