Basali is a small village situated about 20 km south-west of Kiratpur,
Rupnagar District. It was famous as the capital of Basali, a small state ruled by Raja Salahi Chand.
Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh Guru, is said to have stayed here for about 14 days in October 1700, after the historic battle of Nirmohgarh. To commemorate the visit of Guru, Gurdwara Guru Chaunki Jhira Sahib was built at this place. A low wooden seat (chaunki) which is believed to have been used by Guru Gobind Singh during his visit is the main attraction at this
gurdwara.
Kiratpur Sahib Railway Station is at 12 km from here and the nearest airport is
Chandigarh Airport.
