Basak (dichroa febrifuga) is an evergreen shrub that grows throughout the
Himalayas. It belongs to the family of Hydrangeaceae. The shrub requires light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Basak can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. The root and leaf can be used as a febrifuge. Basak is used as an emetic also. It produces leaves throughout the year. Basak flowers between June to August.
