Barren is a small 3 km wide island located 135 km northeast of
Port Blair in
Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Lies about 300 m above sea level, it is the only active volcano in India. The volcano last erupted in 1995. A big hollow of the volcano (about ½ km from the coast) attracts tourists. This place can be visited by board vessels, but there is no permission for landing ashore.
The unique feature of this island is the presence of wild goats, which survive by drinking salt water.
