Barpeta’s Bhortal Nritya is an attractive dance form usually performed during festive occasions in and around Barpeta and
Guwahati, in
Assam. It is an extension of 'Sankari' culture, developed by a well-known Satriya artist, Narahari Burha Bbakat.
The dance is performed by 6 to 10 dancers equipped with cymbals. They perform the first bit of ‘Zhiya Nom’ and produce a number of formations displaying the cymbals.
