Baradebi Mela is a four-day long celebration of worship organized just after the Ratha Yatra. It is dedicated to Sri Baradebi (
Goddess Durga) at Debibari near
Coochbehar. It is one among the ancient fairs celebrated in the state.
According to Jainath Munshi’s book ‘Rajopakhyan’, the temple of
Baradebi Bari Temple was established in the 16th century and hence the fair is believed to be held from that time onwards.
In ancient days during the festival the royal throne, royal bedstead and royal scepter are displayed for five days in a room adjacent to the temple for the people. These displays are not seen nowadays.
