Situated opposite the City Market, Bangalore Fort was originally built in mud by Kempe Gowda, the founder of the present-day city, in the early 16th century. The fort was later fortified by
Tipu Sultan. It is noted for the beautifully carved Islamic-style arches, minarets and paintings. There is an ancient Ganapati Temple within the area of the fort.
