Banapurisvarar Temple

Banapurisvarar Temple, also spelled Banapuriswarar Temple, is a delightful shrine situated in the north-east part of Kumbakonam near the Cauvery River. The temple enshrines Banapurisvarar as the presiding deity along with his divine consort Somakalambikai. Legend has it that when Lord Shiva as hunter pierced the pot of Netar, it spilled over several places. The place where Lord Shiva aimed his Bana (arrow) became known as Banapuri.
