Bamboo trumpets are used by the people belonging to the rural areas of
Nagaland. In the olden days, it was used for sounding an alarm in case an enemy attacks a village.
Bamboo trumpet is constructed from a bamboo segment measuring 4 to 5 ft in length. The segment is cut in such a manner that it contains a node on the top and the center, with the lower end left open. The central node is pierced in the middle to enable the flow of sound through it. A small bamboo pipe, fixed on the top of the bamboo, serves as the mouthpiece. The musical notes are varied by controlling the movements of the tongue.
