Bally, also spelt Bali, is a
taluk headquarters of
Howrah District and lies on the western banks of the
Hooghly River.
This town is part of the
Howrah urban agglomeration, and is a steamer station for traffic along the Hooghly. Jute, paper, bone milling, iron and steel-rolling works are some of the major industries in the town. Belur is 4 km west while
Uttarpara is 3 km north.
Kolkata, the state capital, is 10 km to its south.
Major point of attraction here is the Bally Bridge.
Belur Mutt and Dye plant at Domjur are other points of tourist interest.
The town is connected by road and rail with Howrah, Kharagpur and Bardhaman.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and Bally Railway Station are the nearest airport and railway station.
