Balakun is a snow clad peak in the mountain ranges of the
Himalayas. This snowy peak is placed at an altitude of 6471 m in the Garhwal region. Balakun Peak is located 16 km from
Badrinath at
Chamoli District in
Uttaranchal. The
Alaknanda river takes it birth at a height of 3641 meters below Balakun peak, 16 km upstream from Badrinath to form the two glaciers of Bhagirath Kharak and Satopanth.
