Bala Fort




Bala Fort, also known as Bala Quila, is a giant fort situated on a 300-metre steep cliff, in Alwar, Rajasthan. It was constructed before the Mughal period. The walls of the fort are about five km long.

This imposing structure has 15 large and 51 small towers and 446 openings for musketry, along with 8 huge towers encompassing it. There are several gates - Jai Pole, Suraj Pole, Laxman Pole, Chand Pole, Kishan Pole and Andheri Gate. The remains of Jal Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar, Suraj Kund and many temples can be sighted here.

It is said that the first Mughalemperor Babur spent a night here. The fort is now used as a radio transmitter station.

Bala Fort offers magnificent views of view of the Alwar city.

Visitors can see the inside of the fort only with prior permission.
