Once in every four year, the people of
Kinnaur District celebrate a festival called Bala in the month of Baisakh. On this day, the old weapons belonging to the deities are brought out and cleaned.
The main feature of Bala Festival is that the people of the village divide themselves into two groups and play mock battle. The winners return to the village with sounds of joy, singing and dancing. They also perform many dances with the ancient historical weapons.
The deities are taken around the village in palanquins, and they believe that the evil spirits and ghosts step into the palanquins and the weight increases suddenly.
