Located in
Fatehpur Sikri Complex, Badshahi Darwaja is the eastern gateway of the
Jami Masjid.
Akbar used to cross this gateway from the palace to join in the congregational prayer. Hence it is also called the Royal Door.
The gateway projects out of the mosque wall in the form of a half hexagonal porch and has two kiosks at the top. It is furnished with two arched openings one above the other. The outer face is covered with beautiful bands of buff sandstone that contains geometrical designs in the form of six pointed star. There is a small entrance arch in the interior, adorned with lotus bud like ornamentation. The staircase at the side of the doorways leads to a gallery.
