Gujaratis's
diwali is known as Badhausar. It is believed that
Goddess Lakshmi descends from the heaven on this day to stay in a neat and tidy house.
People keep their houses tidy on this day to welcome the Goddess. Flowers are used to decorate the houses. Girls offer a prayer called Mera to invoke the gods. Preparation and distribution of sweets follow the next day. Earthen lamps are carried by the girls in the evening through the village on the second day making the whole atmosphere picturesque and devotional.
