Badami Fort

Badami Fort is located about 2 km from Badami. The fort ideally stands atop a hill and encloses large granaries. An old gun of Tipu Sultan is an added attraction. Although most parts are in ruins, Badami Fort was once the pride of the Chalukyan Empire. The fort is the best place to have a bird’s eye view of Badami.

Badami Fort consists of a lower fort, which encloses the town and is commended by two strong forts on the hills above - the '52 rocks fort' to the north and the 'battlefield fort' to the south. Several impressive temples dot the northern end of the hill. The fort also houses the Malegitti Shivalaya, the oldest temple of the lot, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Badami Cave Temples, carved out of the hill, are on the opposite side of Badami fort.
