Constructed by Rukmangada Raya, a chief of Sakrepatna, Ayyanakere is an ancient tank at the eastern base of the Baba-Budan range. It lies 18 km north-east of Chickmagalur Town. Ayyanakere provides irrigation facilities to about 1,560 hectares of land. Nearby attraction is the Prasanna Balleshvara shrine with Hoysala sculptures of Ganapathi,
Surya, Krishna, and Ambika.
