Atong is an important tribe of
Meghalaya. This tribe mostly inhabits the valley adjoining the
Simsang River and the surrounding mountains in
South Garo Hills District. They communicate in the
Garo Language.
Atong tribe is believed to have arrived from Tibet. They basically belong to the Garo family of tribes. They share the same traditions, customs and social patterns with the other tribes in this group.
Saram Cha'A and A Se Mania are some of the major festivals celebrated by the Atong tribe.
