The mythology of
Manipur exalts Atiya Guru Sidaba as the supreme god of Manipuri Meities. Atiya Guru Sidaba is believed to be the forefather of all gods, men, animals and planets and also the husband of Leimaren Sidabi, the goddess of earth. The literal meaning of Atiya Guru Sidaba is the 'sole breeder of all that bred.' He is revered as the high God and existed prior to the act of creation.
The Leithhak Leikharol records that when Atiya Guru Sidaba decided to create man, a deity called Kodin emanated from him. Atiya Guru Sidaba was not happy with the frogs and apes that Kodin created. Kodin accordingly created a new shape exactly in the form of Atiya and then Atiya gave it life. That is how man came into being. Then Atiya Guru Sidaba created the Sun and the Moon. The Sun obtained the name of Kanjin-tu-thokpa and the Moon Ashiba; afterwards Atiya Guru Sidaba vanished from the earth.
