Atish Lacquering is a special process used for giving a fiery glow to any wooden article. This method is practiced in
Gujarat. The word ‘Atish’ is derived from ‘Atishbaji,’ which literally means fireworks. This is reflected in the sparkle of the final product.
Minute particles of tin foil are mixed with glue. This paste is coated on the surface of the wooden article. Yellow or red lac is applied over this coating, causing the tin particles to appear as fireworks. The article is polished with agate or other similar stone to give the lac layer a transparent look.
