Atharnala Bridge

A living example of medieval Orissan architecture, Atharnala Bridge was constructed over the Madhupur stream, by Bhanu Deba of the Ganga Dynasty, during the 13th century . This stone structure at the entrance of Puri has eighteen arches ranging from seven to sixteen ft across. The bridge measures two hundred and ninety ft in length. The present bridge has been constructed directly on top of the original brick bridge. Puri is well connected by road, rail and air with Bhubaneswar. Other places such as Konark, Berhampur Taptapani, Sambalpur and Kolkata connect Puri by road. The railhead at Puri links to other cities in Orissa and the country.
