Asutosh Museum of Indian Art




Asutosh Museum of Indian Art, established in 1937, is a public museum located at the University of Calcutta in Kolkata. It was named after Asutosh Mookerjee, the great educationist. The museum stands for the purpose of collecting, preserving and exhibiting objects of Indian art and antiquity with special emphasis on Eastern India.

Exquisite collections on display are sculptures, paintings, folk-art objects, manuscripts, textiles, palm leaf, toys and dolls. The museum also has a good collection of terracotta varieties, providing a wide panorama of cultural endeavors of the people throughout the ages.

Asutosh Museum is open from 10:00 to 17:30 hrs except Saturdays, Sundays and university holidays. Photography is allowed with permission.
