Assi Ghat is one of the bathing ghats in
Varanasi, which situated at the confluence of the
Ganges and the Assi rivers. This ghat is associated with goddess
Durga. After striking down demons Shumbha and Nishumbha, her sword is said to have fallen and created a curved channel, which later became the Assi Channel. This ghat comes under the group of the five special ghats which pilgrims are supposed to bathe in, during the ritual route called ' Panchatirthi Yatra' ending in the Adikeshva ghat in the north.
