Established in 1900 as Berry White Medical School, Assam Medical College and Hospital is a world famous medical institution. This institute is the brain child of Sr John Berry White (a retired Brigadier of British Army and a Civil Surgeon).
The institute is recognized by the Indian Medical Council and is affiliated to the University of Dibrugarh. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, post graduate diploma and certificate programs in various subjects related to medical field.
For getting adequate clinical experience to students a 1,362 bedded multi-disciplinary super specialty hospital is attached to the college. The hospital provides specialized medical and surgical treatments in surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, psychiatry and cardiology. It is equipped with CT scan, ultrasound scan, harmonic
scalpel, theratron cobalt unit, auto analyzer, blood gas analyzer, operative microscope and fundus camera.
