A versatile and distinguished playback singer, Asha Bhonsle was born in
Maharashtra on 8th September, 1933 in a family of musicians. She is the younger sister of renowned playback singer
Lata Mangeshkar. In 1948, Asha made her debut performance in a
Bollywood movie 'Chunaria'. Since then she has worked for several music composers and sung in numerous Indian movies. Asha has sung for private albums both in
Hindi and English. She is also a popular
Ghazal singer. In recognition of her contributions, she has been honored with the National Award, the Filmfare Award, Dayawati Modi Award and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. She lives in
Mumbai.
