An eminent composer of the 18th century, Arunachala Kavi was born in Tillaiyadi of
Thanjavur district in
Tamil Nadu. The first musical drama in Tamil, Rama Natakam is his contribution. This was first played at
Srirangam temple in 1771 and became popular within a short span of time. His other popular creations are Seergazhi Sthala Puranam, Seergazhi Kovai, Hanumar Pillai Tamil and Ajomukhi Natakam.
Arunachala Kavi was also well versed in Sanskrit and
Telugu. For his invaluable contributions, he was honored by Maharaja Tulaja, the King of Thanjavur and several other patrons of that time.
