Arulmigu Narumboonathar Swamy Temple




Arulmigu Narumboonathar Swamy Temple is a highly revered shrine situated at Tiruppudaimaruthur, in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. It lies in an aesthetic ambience on the banks of Tamiraparani River. The temple enshrines Lord Narumboonathar as the presiding deity along with his divine consort Goddess Gomathi Ambal.

Arulmigu Narumboonathar Swamy Temple is an ideal example of Pandya architecture, with simple but appealing form and grace. Though the base of the temple tower is incomplete, it boasts an ancient grandeur, with elegant wooden carvings and human and mythological images drawn from the bhakti cult, over a period of more than 1,000 years. The temple features innumerable paintings all over its interior walls of the five towers.

Arulmigu Narumboonathar Swamy Temple is one of the three Arjuna kshetras, situated at the southern tip of the peninsula, the other two being Mallikarjuna or Srisailam on the bank of Krishna River and Mathyarjuna near Kumbakonam.

The temple preserves inscriptions which state the antiquity of the temple. One of the inscriptions speaks about the naval victory of King Raja Rajan.

The Float Festival celebrated on the Thaipusam day is one of the major festivals celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor.
