Arudra Kapaliswara Temple




Arudra Kapaliswara Temple, also known as Thiruthondiswaram, is located at Erode. The temple dedicated to Sri Arudra Kapaliswara, was built in 1146 by King Kongu Chola Karikala. Inside the temple complex, there are separate shrines for Surya and his two consorts Kanni Vinayagar and Varani Ammai, Durga, Dakshinamurthy, Appar, Sundarar and Subramanian. The temple has exquisite sculptures and several historically significant inscriptions. It has a grand five-tier Rajagopuram at the entrance. The temple is designed in a manner that during the Tamil month of Maasi, Sun's rays fall on the presiding deity. Nearest airport is at Coimbatore (90 km) and Erode Junction Railway Station - a major railway station on the western coastline - is the nearest railway station.
