Artha

The Sanskrit word 'artha' has the meaning 'of wealth.' Hinduism recognizes the importance of material wealth for happiness and well being of an individual. A householder requires wealth to safeguard the interests of his family and to perform his dharma. Material wealth is reckoned as the second most important objective in human life, the second of the four purusharthas.
