Aretippur, also known as Tippeyur and Basthiya Thippeyur, is a beautiful village in
Mandya District of
Karnataka. The history and culture of this ancient village date back over a millennium. Aretippur is about three kilometers east of Kokkarebellur.
The prime attraction of the place is Aretippur Jain Temple. Getting its fame as a Jain center during the reign of the Gangas, the place is comparable to Shravanabelagola - one of the most important Jain centers in the world. The ruins of the basadi, pillars, panipeetas (circular pedestals) and images of Tirthankars on the top of the hill are other attractions. Nestled between two hills, Aretippur also has several ponds and a Gommateshwara idol.
Aretippur can be accessed easily on the Maddur-Halgur road.
