Jhajjar Museum, or the Archaeological Museum of Gurukul as it is popularly known, is considered as the biggest museum in
Haryana. Established in 1959 the museum is situated at
Jhajjar, about 65 km west of
New Delhi.
The museum exhibits a vast collection of antique coins as well as rare and beautiful variety of statues and idols. The most noteworthy item on display is the famous '427 copper leaves', each weighing 2.5 kilograms, on which Satyartha Prakash - the great work of Swami Dayananda Saraswati - had been written.
A rich collection of antiques from Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Ahichchhatra (Bareilly) and Koushanbhi (Allahabad) are also of exhibit. Large number of scriptures from Ramayana and Mahabharata periods are also showcased here.
Archaeological Museum of Gurukul exhibited some of its rare pieces of idols and antique in Indo-Japan Festival, held in Japan.
Rohtak Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead. The museum can be easily accessed by bus from Rohtak, Gurgaon, Rewari.
