Aranya Sundareswarar Temple, dedicated to
Lord Shiva, is located at Keezh Tirukkattuppalli near Mayiladuturai, Poompuhar in
Thanjavur District. Legend has it that
Brahma created ten
Shivlingas and worshipped Shiva at this place.
The temple has four teerthams at the four corners. The temple is so constructed as to let the rumble of the sea be heard at the
Dakshinamurthy shrine. The main festival is celebrated on the 2nd day of the month of Thai (Capricorn). The idol of Shiva is brought in a procession from Tiruvenkadu at the time of festival.
