Annakonda Pillar, a beautiful quadrangular column carved out of black granite stone, is situated in front of the Padmakshi temple, at
Warangal, in
Andhra Pradesh. Squatting figure of a Jaina ascetic, with his arms folded over his top cross wise, is found within a counter sunk square at the top of the pillar's four faces. The figure is flanked by a cow and a calf on one side and a dagger and shield on the other side, in the eastern wing while the image of ascetic has representations of Sun and Moon on its right and left sides, in the northern face.
The inscriptions and sculptures on the pillar reveal that the temple was originally dedicated to Jain goddess Kadalalaya and the pillar was built by a woman who had constructed the temple. It belongs to the first quarter of the 12th century.
