Angadipuram Pooram

Angadipuram Pooram is held at Thirumandhamkunnu Temple in Angadipuram of Malppuram District. The deity of the temple is Goddess Bhadrakali. The festivities are conducted during the month of April or May.

This eleven-day ceremony includes the dance of the Komarams and the colorful Kalampattu of the Kurups. The temple flag is hoisted on the big mast in front of the temple on the third day. The deity is taken out in a procession and bathed twice in the stream daily.

The priest of the temple takes the deity on the back of caparisoned elephant and circumambulates the temple. This procession that starts from the northern gopuram down the steps of the temple is accompanied by musicians playing on drums and pipes. When it reaches the foot of the hillock, the priest alights from the elephant and takes the deity down to the stream for ritual bath. After the bath, the deity is taken back to the temple. This is done on all the days of the festival except on the tenth day. There are fireworks and cultural programs in the evening.
