Ambikapuram Car Festival celebrated every November at Ambikapuram in
Palakkad District. The main temples participating in this festival are Madhakkara Mahaganapati Temple, Shri Krishna Temple of Old Kalpathy, Kalpathy Viswanatha Swamy Temple and
Mahaganapati Temple at
Chathapuram.
During the festival, which lasts for 10 days, all the chariots from the above-mentioned temples are decorated and brought in a procession. The festival is similar to one held at Mayavaram in Tamil Nadu. The main car festival lasts for two days. On the other days, the temple deities are circumambulated through the villages in small chariots, which are accompanied by Nadaswaram and fire-works.
The 5th day festival, the Pallack procession at night on the 9th day, and the ratha yatra on the last two days are the main attractions.
