Amathaguda is a ruined fort, situated on the right bank of Tel River in
Kalahandi District,
Orissa. There is no information about the history of the fort as its remains have not yet been investigated. It is of considerable strategically importance in view as it stood close to the point where the river was forded since ancient time. The road which spanned the river by a low bridge ran almost on the old route. A few meters away from the old ruined bridge, a new bridge was built. Some portions of the new bridge were washed away by high floods that occurred in Tel River in 1977.
