Amar Singh Gate, the entry point of
Agra Fort, is located at
Agra, about 200 km from
Delhi. The gate is towards the south of the fort and is defended by a square bastion flanked by round towers.
This gate has historical importance, since it was here that the Maharaja of Jodhpur in an attempt to escape from the fort, ran his horse over the fort wall. A stone statue of the horse has been constructed here in memory of the loyal horse. Thousands of tourists pass through the gate daily to view the famous Jahangir Mahal. Adorned with glazed tiles, Amar Singh Gate is also noted for its architectural excellence.
