Amalakavaneswarar-Nellivananatheswarar Temple




Amalakavaneswarar-Nellivananatheswarar Temple is situated at Tirunellikka near Tiruvarur. The temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram with a height of 80 foot and three prakarams. In the outer prakaram there is a 12 pillared hall which has paintings depicting the sthalapuranam (history of the place) of the temple.

The sun's rays at sunset illuminate the sanctum twice a year for seven days, commencing on Deepavali in the Dakshinayanam and the 18th day of Pisces in the Uttarayanam. There are two temple theerthams - Bhrama Theertham tank to the south of the temple and the Surya theertham to the north. The sthala vriksham (sacred tree) is Nellimaram. The main festival is the Bhrammotsavam celebrated in the month of Chittirai (April–May). Other festivals celebrated are Navaratri and Skanda Shashti.
