Allen Forest Zoo, also known as the City Zoo, is one of the oldest and best zoos in the country. In area, it is the largest in Asia.
Located amid Allen Forest in Kanpur, the zoo provides people from all over the country a chance to watch rare wild animals and avian species. The residents, among many others, are Asiatic lion, axis deer, bear, chowsinga, deer, hippopotamus, Indian rhinoceros, leopard, orang-utan, tiger and
red fox.
The zoo is also notable for its distinct varieties of trees, particularly Neem and Prosopis. These trees were planted by George Bernard Allen in 1913.
A tram runs inside the park providing opportunities to view the natural habitat. The zoo authority organizes cultural programs, seminars and art competitions to spread awareness among children.
