Ali Sardar Jafri, an exuberant
Urdu writer, was born in 1913 at Ballarpur in
Uttar Pradesh. He was an active participant in several political, social and literary movements. Among his renowned works are 'Asia Jag Utha', 'Patthar ki Deewar', 'Lahu Pukarta' and 'Parwaz'. Most of his works were translated into several Indian and foreign languages. Ali Sardar Jafri received several awards, prominent being Bharatiya Jnanpith Award, Padmashree and Makhdoom Award. In 1986, he was honored with D. Litt. by
Aligarh Muslim University. He died in 2000.
