Ali Ai Ligang is a colourful festival celebrated by the Mising Tribes in
Assam. It is held on the first Wednesday of the month of Ginmur Polo (February-March.)
The festival is connected with the ceremonial sowing of paddy. The word 'Ali' means root or seed, 'Ai' means fruit and 'Ligang' means sow.
A dance is performed by the young boys and girls, characterized by brisk stepping, flinging and flapping of hands and swaying of hips, reflecting youthful passion and reproductive urge.
