Akki Muhurta

Akki Muhurta is one among the 4 rituals observed during the Paryaya festival, in Udupi. The ritual of Akki Muhurta is performed in order to ensure an adequate supply of rice, at the time of special festivals when many people are fed. Arrangements are made to store the rice needed, for the visitors of Krishna Mutt. In his Mutt, the Swamiji offers prayers to the navagraha. A procession led by the Swamiji and the officials from his Mutt proceeds to the Chandreshwara and Anantheshwara Temples. A major attraction of the ceremony is a beautifully decorated palanquin, with rice placed on it and covered with a silken cloth. The devotees with rice packets on their heads walk in procession.
