Akalkot, a small town located on the
Solapur-Maindargi Road, was once the headquarters of a former state in western India. The place contains a large number of
ashrams devoted to Swami Akalkot. Swami Akalkot was a follower of Datta who is considered to be an embodiment of
Vishnu. Shree Swami Samarth of Akalkot is also variously known as 'Akalkot Swami,' 'Akalkot
Maharaj,' and 'Akalkot Niwasi Maharaj.'
