Ahura Mazda is the supreme god in
Zoroastrianism. He is considered as the creator and preserver of heaven and earth. The literal meaning of Ahura Mazda is ‘Lord Wisdom’. He is also referred by the name Ormizd and is represented by a winged disc.
According to Zoroastrianism, Ahura Mazda created two contradicting spirits. The first one called Spenta Mainyu was a representative of truth, light and life. The other one was named Angra Mainyu (Ahriman) and was of destructive nature and a representative of death and darkness. The constant struggle between these two spirits is believed to continue. The events in world history are a result of this constant battle.
