Founded by William Carey in 1820, Agri-Horticultural Society of India is situated at Alipore, adjacent to the Zoological Garden, in
Kolkata. It strives to enhance biodiversity through ecology by the means of garden, shows and advisory services. The botanical varieties found here are vivid and distinct.
The society employs the latest technology for the development of horticulture. Plant and nature conservation, education, training and research are part of the development. It also gives special care in generating more plantations and preserving the endangered species.
Courses on gardening and cultivation of certain species are conducted, which include consultancy, training, awareness programs, seminars and symposiums. There is also a well-equipped library. Annual flower show held in the premises in winter is a main seasonal attraction.
The garden is opened from 07:00 - 11:00 hrs and 15:00 - 17:00 hrs. There is no entry fee.
