Agasa and Agasagitti rocks lie on hillock at
Kutagal in
Bangalor Rural District. A sad romantic tale is associated with these rocks.
Agasa (washer man) and Agasagitti (washer woman) were deeply in love. Soon their relationship came into conflict with the existing notions of the society. Unable to part, they decided to commit suicide by jumping off the hill. Before jumping they worshipped at the Venkataramana Temple. The lord appeared in the form of a sage and enquired about their problem. Hearing their story, the sage blessed them and turned them into stone, so that they remain next to each other forever.
The two rocks appear as if locked in embrace. The taller rock is known as Agasa rock and shorter as Agasagitti rock. The Agasa rock has a cave-like formation making it an ideal site for camping.
