Adiya, traditionally known as Ravulayar, is one of the slave sects found in the state of
Kerala. A majority of this scheduled tribe is settled down in
Wayanad District. The tribe members are quite like the
Paniyas, a tribal community dwelling in the northern Kerala.
In the nuclear Adiya tribal family, the husband is the head of the house. Monogamy appears to be the general rule among the members, but polygamy is also tolerated in certain cases. During marriage, the groom gives bride price to the parents of the bride. Divorce and widow marriage are also prevalent in this community.
