Adhusa is a small village that lies along the ‘Line of Control (LoC)' in
Baramulla District,
Jammu and Kashmir. The river
Jhelum separates Adhusa from Chakothi, the nearest major settlement on the other side of the border, just two kilometers into the territory of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Adhusa is 14 km from
Uri and is about 115 km from the summer capital of
Srinagar. Muzaffarabad, the headquarters of PoK, is 56 km away.
A dilapidated wooden bridge, called the ‘Weak Bridge’ by the locals, is the only link that connects these settlements. The sad state of the bridge stands testimony to the 58 years and still continuing mindset of animosity between India and Pakistan. Given the new air of peace and bonhomie between the long standing rivals, now the bridge is being reconstructed to facilitate the much hyped bus service linking Srinagar with Muzaffarabad, much to the relief of broken families and hearts that got strewn across both sides of the border in the ongoing tug of war of egos between the two countries.
