Adam's Bridge, around 30 km long, is a chain of reefs, sandbanks and islets that lie in the Palk Strait, almost bridging Sri Lanka with the Indian main land. It lies near
Pamban at
Rameshwaram between the South-eastern coast of India and Talaimannar of Sri Lanka.
Adam's Bridge has its name attributed to the notion that the biblical Garden of Eden was Sri Lanka. It is also believed to be the 'Chira' built by the 'vanaras' to Lanka, in the epic Ramayana, while on pursuit of Sita.
