One of the oldest temples in
Kerala, Aanakulangara Bhagavathy Temple is at Arunapuram near
Pala in
Kottayam District. It was built by Vellala community, who migrated to Malanadu of Kerala from different parts of
Tamil Nadu.
The idol worshipped here is believed to be that of Kannaki of Shilappadikaram celebrity. Every year the temple holds a big festival, which attracts devotees from far-off places.
By road, the temple is easily accessible from Pala. The nearest railhead is Kottayam Railway Station.
